Bucknell Track and Field Squad Competes Strong at the Jim Taylor Invitational

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - On Saturday, the Bucknell track and field squad participated in the Jim Miller Invitational on the campus of Susquehanna University. The Orange and Blue notched five first-place victories at the meet led by senior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), who threw for a distance of 192 feet, 2 inches (58.58m) in the hammer throw, which is an NCAA regional and IC4A qualifying mark.
Freshman Tony Cillo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebonan) place first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.92 seconds. Sophomore Kim Hassett (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) finished first in the 5,000 after running a time of 18:29.51, while sophomore Nicole Smith (Mercer, Pa./Mercer Area) posted a time of 11:42.90 in the 3,000 steeplechase, which was good for first. Sophomore Alyson Cobb (Howell, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) cleared a height of 9-5 ¾ (2.89m) to win the pole vault competition.
Senior Sean Egan (Yorkstown Heights, N.Y./Fordham Prep) ran a time of 32:41.06 in the 10,000, which was good for third. Senior Eric Harbison (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg) place third in the 1,500 with a mark of 4:05.90. Freshman Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) posted second-place finishes in the 110 hurdles and the pole vault. White ran time of 15.56 in the hurdles, while clearing a height of 12-11 ½ (3.95) in the pole vault.
Sophomore Lyndon Thweatt (Bowie, Md./Bowie) crossed the line with a time of 1:00.85 in the 400 hurdles, which was good for second. Junior Michael Contino (Broomall, Pa./Espiscopal Academy) jumped a distance of 21- ½ (6.41m) in the long jump to finish in second place.
Sophomore Rebecca Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) place second in the high jump with a mark of 4-11 ¾ (1.52m). Freshman Laura Cundey (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) and senior Rebecca Pierotti (Hazleton, Pa./Bishop Hafey) finished second and third in the 3,000 steeplechase. Cundey ran a time of 12:36.21, while Pierotti notched a time of 12:36.68.
Junior Jennifer Grant (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) ran a time of 18:38.81 in the 5,000. Senior Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills and junior Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) became ECAC qualifiers after finishing back-to-back in the 10,000. Nastase place second with a time of 37:24.01, which ranks her tenth in school history, while Totten finished third with a time of 37:24.45.
Junior Andrea Wright (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) notched a second-place showing in the 800 with a time of 2:24.41. Sophomore Katie Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) place third in the 100 with a time of 13.42. She also finished fourth in the 200, crossing the plane with a time of 28.01.
Bucknell will be back in action on Friday, April 6, as they compete in the Auburn Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., and the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J.
