FAIRFAX, Va. - Seniors Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) and Joshua Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./Southwestern) along with sophomore Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) posted first-place finishes at the George Mason Classic as they led the Bucknell track and field teams to a strong showing.
Buczko took first in the pole vault after she cleared a height of 12 feet, 5 ½ inches (3.80m), which is an NCAA regional and ECAC qualifying mark. Kaehler won his event in the javelin after he threw for a distance of 201-4 (61.38m), which was also an IC4A qualifying mark. MacLeod ran a time of 53.50 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, which qualified him for the IC4A Championships. His time ranks him third in school history.
Senior Angie Hall (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 10-11 ¾ (3.35m). Senior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) place fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 38-8 ¾ (11.80m). Senior Kathleen Hart (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) posted a second-place finish in the discus with a mark of 144-8 (44.11m), which qualified her for the ECAC Championships and ranks her fifth in school history. Junior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 150-10 (45.99m).
Freshman Steven Pierce (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) finished fourth in the javelin with a distance of 197-2 (60.10m), which was IC4A qualifying mark and moves him into ninth place in school history. Junior David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick) cleared a height of 15-3 (4.65m), which was good for fourth place. Junior James Meyer (Pac. Palisades, Calif./Pac. Palisades) threw for a distance of 168-0 (51-23m) in the hammer throw, which was good for second and ranks him ninth in school history. He also posted a third-place finish in the discus with a mark of 148-10 (45.36m).
Freshman Kyle Anthony (Barrysville, N.Y./Eldred Central) notched a fourth-place showing in the long jump with a distance 22-5 (6.85m), while in the triple jump, he finished fourth with a mark of 47-1 ½ (14.37m), which moves him into seventh place in school history. Senior Derrin Pierret (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) place third in the 5,000 with a time of 15:23.36. Freshman Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Gov. Dummer Academy) finished second in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:45.09.
Bucknell will compete in the Auburn Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., and in the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J., on Friday, April 6.
