LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The red-hot Bucknell women's lacrosse team is back at Graham Field on Wednesday night, hosting UC Davis in a non-conference clash at 7 p.m. The Bison have won four in a row, including a wild 13-12 Patriot League victory over Lehigh on Saturday, and now stand at 4-3 on the season.
Like all Bucknell spring athletics events, there is no admission charge for Wednesday night's game.
Bucknell will be looking to avenge a 13-5 loss to the Aggies in the first-ever meeting between the two teams last season in California. Katie McMahon tallied a school-record nine goals in that game, but McMahon is sitting out this season due to injury. Instead, the Bison will have to contend with high-scoring midfielder Megan O'Connor, who leads the Aggies in goals (22), assists (13), points (35), ground balls (35), draw controls (23) and caused turnovers (17).
The Bison have outscored their opponents 54-32 during the current four-game winning streak, with sophomore middie Bonnie Buechel and freshman attack Carol Donohue carrying a large chunk of the scoring load.
Buechel has a team-high 19 goals, including a career-high five in the Lehigh win. She has 11 goals and four assists in the last four contests and row ranks fourth in the Patriot League in goals per game.
Donohue did not register a point in either of her first two collegiate games, but she has taken off since then, logging 26 points (15 goals, 11 assists) in her last five contests. Donohue, the Patriot League Rookie of the Week in each of the last two weeks, leads the team and ranks sixth in the Patriot League in points per game.
Sophomore Sarah Collins, last season's team scoring leader, is having another solid campaign. She has at least one goal in every game and has nine goals and eight assists for 17 points on the season.
Defensively, freshman netminder Katie Hartsock has won the last two Patriot League Goalie of the Week citations, while Alex Radebaugh and Lauren Kremer have secured the last two PL Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Junior defender Lauren Deitrich also continues to shine. She has a goal in five straight games and leads the team in draw controls (16) and caused turnovers (19).
UC Davis also played at Lehigh in its most recent outing. The Aggies dropped an 11-10 decision in Bethlehem on Monday. They had beaten Lafayette (13-12) and Iona (14-7) in succession at home just prior to the loss to the Mountain Hawks. UC Davis also has victories over Siena and Canisius, along with additional losses to UConn, California, LeMoyne and Oregon.
Following Wednesday night's game, the Bison return to Patriot League play on Saturday, visiting traditional Patriot League power Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y., at noon. Bucknell is 3-23 all-time against the Raiders, with the last win coming in the 2003 Patriot League Tournament.
