Bucknell Men's Tennis Loses to UMBC, 6-1

CATONSVILLE, Pa. - On Saturday, the Bucknell men's tennis squad fell in its non-league match up to UMBC, 6-1. Junior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper) posted the lone Bison victory over Irfan Shamasdin, 6-2, 6-0, in the No. 1 singles spot. Reibeisen improves to 6-4 in the No. 1 spot.
In doubles, sophomores Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) were defeated by Nick Savage-Pollock and Fredi Voorman in the No. 1 spot, 8-6, while David Jackson and Shamasdin clinched the doubles point for the Retrievers against the team of Reibeisen and freshman Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick), 8-7(7-3), in the No. 2 spot.
Sandburg fell to Chris Meyer in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Hascoe was defeated by Jackson in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0, in the No. 3 spot. Due to an injury, Brenner was forced to retire in the first set of his No. 4 singles match against Voorman. Sophomore Sidharth Makkar (Queens, N.Y./Bronx School of Science) was dropped by Savage-Pollock in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1, while sophomore Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) loss to Fernando Ferreira, 6-4, 6-2, in the No. 6 spot.
The Bison, now 4-8, will battle Navy in their Patriot League opener on Sunday, Mar. 25, in Annapolis, Md. The match will begin at 11 a.m.
