TEGA CAY, S.C. -- Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) shot a team-low 80 and Teri Schlang (Scottsdale, Ariz./Stratton Mountain School) shot 82 to post a top-10 finish, leading Bucknell's women's golf squad to a strong sixth-place showing in a 16-team field at The Shamrock Intercollegiate.
Even though the team dropped eight shots off its first-round score and shot 341 on Sunday, the Bison still defeated 10 other teams in a mostly Southern field.
Schlang shot 80 on Saturday and 82 on Sunday, and her 36-hole total of 162 was good for a tie for ninth place.
Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) came into the final round alone in second place after a first-round 75, but she struggled to an 89 in the final round and finished tied for 13th.
Loughney's 80 was 10 shots better than her first-round total, moving her up to a tie for 29th. Also for Bucknell, Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) shot 88-93 and Kathryn Batchelor (Lawrenceville, N.J./Princeton Day School) shot 95-90.
Host Winthrop came from well behind to win the team title thanks to a final round 312. Jutta Degerman of Winthrop copped the individual title with rounds of 79-73.
The Bison are back in action next weekend at the William & Mary Invitational.
