Bucknell Indoor Track and Field Teams Prepare for this Weekend's ECAC and IC4C Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa - The Bucknell women's and men's indoor track and field squads will compete in the ECAC and IC4A Championships on Saturday, Mar. 3-4, in Boston, Mass. The men's team will compete at Boston University, while the women's squad will perform at the Reggie Lewis Center on the campus of Northeastern University. To qualify for the championships, an athlete must meet the qualifying criteria or win an event at the Patriot League Championships.
For the women, senior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) will compete in the 20-lb weight throw and the shot put. Grap, who won her third Patriot League title in the 20-lb weight throw, broke her own school record with a heave of 65 feet, 7 ½ inches (20.00m), which is an NCAA provisional mark. Seniors Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) and Angie Hall (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) will participate in the pole vault at the championships. Buzcko won her third Patriot League title in the pole vault and will look to win her second ECAC title. The Butler, Pa. native, posted a mark of 13-4 ¼ (4.07m) at the Bucknell Winter Classic, which was a NCAA provisional mark. Hall earned her spot in the championships after posting a third-place finish after clearing a height of 12-3 ½ (3.75m) at the Patriot League Championships.
Senior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) broke a school record in the pentathlon at the Bison Open and Multi after collecting 3,504 points to earn her spot in the championships. Freshman Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) will compete in the high jump. Mantush broke the school record in the high jump with a mark of 5-8 (1.73m) at the Patriot League Championships. Her mark also tied a meet record.
Senior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.J./Garden City) will take part in the 60 hurdles and the 400. At the Patriot League Championships, Trentacoste took first in the 400 to earn a spot in the championships. She placed second in the 60 hurdles of 8.78, which was a new school record. Senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area), who qualified for the 800, 1,000, and the mile, will participate in only the 800 this weekend. She ran a time of 2:10.42 at the Sykes-Sabok Challenge Cup, which is the best time in the league this season.
Junior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) will run in the mile after posting a time of 4:57.89 at the Akron Open. Cranmer-Hart is coming off a win in the mile at the Patriot League Championships. Seniors Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) and Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) will both compete in the 5,000. Nastase earned a spot in the championships after placing first at the Patriot League Championships with a time of 17:49.71, while Stevens ran a time of 17:30.78 at the Akron Open, which is the fastest time in the league this year.
"This is our largest contingent of qualifiers since I arrived in 2001," said head coach Kevin Donner. "Our women have proven that they can compete well at the Patriot Leagues Championships and we really want to show people that we can also compete at an eastern level. We have quite a few ladies that have an opportunity to place very high."

On the men's side, Matthew Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell), who was named the Patriot League Outstanding Athlete of the Meet at the Patriot League Championships, will compete in the 3,000-meter run after clocking a time of 8 minutes, 13.13 seconds at the league championships, which won him the event and was a new meet record. Sophomore Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton), won both the 200 and 400 at the Patriot League Championships, will run the 400 at the IC4A Championships. His best time this season was a school-record of 47.58, which he posted at the Penn State National Invitational. Junior Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) qualified for the championships at the Akron Open in the 800 after running a time of 1:54.43.
Junior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) will participate in the mile after he marked a time of 4:11.23 at the Akron Open. Sophomore Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) will compete in the 55 hurdles after posting a time of 7.72 at the Bucknell Winter Classic. Senior Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) will race in the 1,000. He ran a time of 2:27.60 at the Penn State National Invitational.
In the field, senior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), who won his second straight 35-lb weight throw title at the Patriot League Championships, will look to win his first IC4A Championship in the event. His distance of 65-2 (19.86m) at the Bucknell Winter Classic was a new school record and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Also competing in the 35-lb weight throw will be James Meyer (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Pacific Palisades), who qualified for the championships at the Patriot League Championships with a throw of 55-5 ¾ (16.96m).
Freshman Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) will compete in the long and triple jumps at the championships. Anthony was named Rookie of the Meet at the Patriot League Championships after winning the triple jump with a distance of 49-7 (15.13m), which was a new meet record and personal best, and placing third in the long jump with a distance of 23-0 ¾ (7.03m). Senior David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) won the Patriot League title in the pole vault after clearing a height of 15-3 (4.65m), earning a spot in the IC4A Championships.
"This is the best team that we have taken to the IC4A meet in the last 6 years," replied Donner. "We have a few guys that have a chance to score some big points and earn All-East recognition. Finishing among the top 10 schools on the east coast is an obtainable goal."
The ECAC Championships will begin at 9 a.m. with the pentathlon, while the IC4A Championships are slated to start at 12 p.m. with the heptathlon.
