Bucknell Women's Indoor Track and Field Squad Wins Sixth Straight Patriot League Championship

WEST POINT, N.Y. - On Sunday, the Bucknell women's track and field squad captured its sixth straight Patriot League Championship and 11th overall after collecting a total of 192 points. Navy (139.75) and Army (81) rounded out the top three, while Lafayette (76.75), Lehigh (47.75), Holy Cross (47.75), Colgate (34), and American (1) finished fourth thru eighth. Head coach Kevin Donner received his sixth Patriot League Coach of the Year award.
Senior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) tallied her third pole vault title after clearing a height of 12 feet, 9 ½ inches (3.90m), which is and ECAC qualifying mark. Senior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.J./Garden City) posted a first-place showing in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.79 seconds. She also finished second in the 60 hurdles with a mark of 8.78, which was a new school record and an ECAC qualifying time. Senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) posted a first-place finish in the 800, crossing the line with a time of 2:13.31. Junior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) placed first in the mile with a time of 5:00.03, which was an ECAC qualifying time. She also finished second in the 1,000 with a time of 2:58.29.
Also making an impact for the Bison was senior Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa/Wyalusing Valley), who finished second in the mile and third in the 3,000 with times of 5:04.40 and 10:02.26, respectively. Sophomore Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) placed second in the 500 after she broke the plane with a time of 1:16.46. Senior Angie Hall (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) cleared a height of 12-3 ½ (3.75m), which was good for third and made her an ECAC qualifier. Senior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) jumped a distance of 37-9 ½ (11.52m) in the triple jump, which was good for third.
Junior Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) placed third in the 800 with a mark of 2:15.96, while junior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) finished third in the 1,000 with a time of 2:59.32. In the shot put, senior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) notched a third-place showing with a distance of 44-8 (13.61m), which is an ECAC qualifying mark. The team of Hathaway, Trenacoste, sophomore Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) and freshman Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands) finished second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:55.47.
"We are very elated that we won our sixth straight championship," said Donner. "We have a lot of balance and strength and we scored 18 of the 20 events."
The Bucknell women's indoor track and field team will participate in the ECAC Championships in Boston, Mass., starting on March 3.
