Bucknell Women's Swimming & Diving Remains Second Through Two Days of PL Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Through two days of competition at the 2007 Patriot League Championships in Kinney Natatorium, the Bucknell women's swimming & diving squad sits in second in the team standings out of the field of eight schools. Navy currently leads the pack with 520 points, while the Bison have 422 points in second and Colgate is third with 387.
The best finish of the day for the Orange and Blue came in the 100 back as freshman Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) moved up to fourth all-time in Bucknell history, touching the wall in 57.95 seconds in the preliminaries, before improving that mark with her runner-up performance in the finals, 57.83. Senior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) followed in fifth with a time of 58.67, freshman Abigail Atkinson (Newton, Conn./Newtown) posted the 10th-fastest time in the Bison record books, good for ninth in the meet (59.50) and freshman Lauren Russell (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) took 10th in 59.89.
Freshmen Eliza Massie (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) and Rebecca Bersani (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) represented Bucknell in the one-meter diving finals where Massie placed third with a mark of 242.85, while Bersani's total of 231.20 points landed her in fourth.
In the 400 IM, Nikki Woodward (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) led a group of four Bison who qualified for the finals as she was fourth with a time of 4:30.67. Her classmate, senior Laura Goeller (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School) claimed fifth (4:31.92), Russell was ninth with the sixth-best time in school history (4:33.60) and sophomore Nikki Seaman (Cleveland, Ohio/The Hawken School) came in 15th with a time of 4:42.29.
Five members of the Orange and Blue qualified for the finals in the 200 free with freshman Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) posting the top time, 1:53.31, which was good for fifth and ranks fourth in the Bucknell record books. Senior Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) matched her career-best time of 1:52.87 in the preliminaries, which is No. 2 on the program's top-10, and went on to take eighth in the final (1:54.22). Junior Kirsten Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins) won the "B" final with the sixth-fastest time in school history, 1:53.68, while senior Carlyn Donley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) was 14th (1:57.68) and sophomore Ally St. Claire (Silver Spring, Md./Edmund Burke) finished 15th (1:57.74).
Sophomore Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) took fifth in the 100 breast in 1:05.43 after improving her season-best time, which ranks second in the Bison record books to 1:05.07 in the preliminaries. Seaman improved her standing on the program's top-10 list as well, moving up to fourth with her 11th-place time of 1:07.04.
Both Munson and freshman Sarah Pease (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin Senior High) reached the finals in the 100 fly. Munson came in 5th in 58.00, while Pease was 16th (59.83).
The Bison claimed the third spot in both relays that were contested on day two. Warren, Morris, Munson and Scheffter posted the fourth-fastest time in Bucknell history in the 200 medley relay, 1:45.39, while Woodward, Mongan, Skroski and Donley recorded the school's No. 3-ranking 800 free relay mark all-time, 7:39.75.
On Sunday, February 18, the Orange and Blue will close out the Patriot League Championships with the third and final day of competition. Trials are slated for 10:30 a.m., with finals set to begin at 5 p.m.
