Bucknell Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes as Runner-up at Patriot League Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Ten members of the Orange and Blue were named to the All-Patriot League first and second teams as the Bucknell women's swimming & diving squad wrapped up a runner-up finish at the three-day PL Championships in Kinney Natatorium on Sunday. The Bison took second out of the eight teams in the league with 644 points, while Navy was crowned champion with 805 points. Behind Bucknell, Colgate was third with 598 points, followed by Army (353.5), Lehigh (351), Lafayette (331.5), American (256) and Holy Cross (144).
Seniors Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) and Nikki Woodward (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) earned spots on the all-league first team based on their individual point totals in the meet. Scheffter concluded her four years with the Bison with 181 championship points, good for third among the Class of 2007.
Representing the Orange and Blue on the All-Patriot League second team were freshman Rebecca Bersani (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), senior Laura Goeller (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School), freshman Eliza Massie (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland), freshman Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), sophomore Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen), junior Kristen Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins) and freshman Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen).
To open finals competition on day three, senior Carlyn Donley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) led a group of three top-eight finishers for the Bison in the 1650 free. Donley placed fifth with a time of 17 minutes, 33.84 seconds, sophomore Ally St. Claire (Silver Spring, Md./Edmund Burke) took seventh in 17:42.96 and Skroski was eighth with a time of 17:43.43.
Goeller qualified for the "A" final in the 200 back where she touched the wall in 2:05.55, taking fifth. In the consolation final, Abigail Atkinson (Newton, Conn./Newtown) led a group of three Bucknell freshmen as she placed 10th with a time of 2:08.59 after posting the 10th-best time in program history during the preliminaries, 2:08.42. Warren followed in 11th (2:09.52) and Abigail Paules (York, Pa./Baltimore Lutheran) was 12th (2:11.60).
In the 100 free, Scheffter recorded a fourth-place showing with a time of 51.62, while Mongan claimed sixth in 52.46 and improved to fourth on the all-time top-10 list for the Orange and Blue. In the "B" final of that event, sophomore Susan Horstmann (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) finished 16th in 55.15.
Three Bison set new career-best times in the 200 breast to improve their standing in Bucknell's record books. Morris, whose time of 2:21.12 ranks second in program history, took fourth in the event, Woodward touched the wall sixth in 2:21.94, good for third on the top-10 list, and sophomore Nikki Seaman (Cleveland, Ohio/The Hawken School) moved up to fourth all-time as she won the "B" final with a time of 2:23.81. Freshman Caroline Walsh (Watchung, N.J./Kent Place School) qualified for the consolation final, as well, where she came in 14th with a time of 2:29.77.
Munson collected fourth in the 200 fly (2:08.83) and freshman Sarah Pease (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin Senior High) placed 12th in the event with a time of 2:10.81.
On the three-meter board for the Orange and Blue, Bersani recorded the third-highest score, 235.25, and Massie was fifth with 229.20 points.
Then to close out the day, the 400 free relay squad of Munson, Mongan, Skroski and Scheffter posted the sixth-best time in Bison history, 3:33.02, good for fourth in the meet.
