Bucknell Men's Indoor Track and Field Takes Lead After Day Two at Patriot League Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Led by first-place finishes from seniors Matthew Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) and Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and junior David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warick Valley), the Bucknell men's indoor track and field squad, who were picked sixth in the preseason poll, took the overall team lead with 61 points after day two of the Patriot League Championships at West Point, N.Y. Army (54.50) and Navy (42.50) round out the top three.
Forys posted his victory in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14 minutes, 19.26 seconds, which was an IC4A qualifying mark. Hoffman won his second straight Patriot League title in the 35-lb weight throw competition after recording a distance of 60 feet, 5 ¼ inches (18.42m), which was an IC4A mark. Mante notched his win in the pole vault, clearing a height of 15-3 (4.65m).
In the conclusion of the heptathlon, freshman Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) and senior Robert Gradoville (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) battled back to collect top-five finishes. White finished second with 4,419 points, while Gradoville tallied 4,355 points. Junior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) finished third in the 5,000 with a time of 14:38.68. Junior James Meyer (Pac. Palisades, Calif./Pac. Palisades) took third in the weight throw with a distance of 55-7 ¾ (16.96m), which earned him a spot in the IC4A Championships.
In the high jump, sophomore Ryan Robinson (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) and Senior Richard Simpson (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) placed third and fifth with heights of 6-7 and 6-3 ¼, respectively. Simpson, a four-year member of the football team, was competing in his first Patriot League track and field Championship. Coming back from an leg injury, freshman Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) notched a third-place showing in the long jump with a distance of 23-0 ¾ (7.03m).
Sophomore Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) posted the top qualifying mark in the 200 with a time of 22:36 and will compete in the final. Sophomore Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and freshman Sean Coyne (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) qualified for the 60 hurdles final with times of 8.36 and 8.66, respectively. MacLeod's time was a new school record.
The Bucknell men's indoor track and field squad will look to win its first Patriot League Championships since 1993 on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 12 p.m., with the one-mile run.
