WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's indoor track and field squad finished third out of eight teams with 122 points at the Patriot League Championships on Sunday. Senior Matthew Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) was awarded the Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet honor, while freshman Kyle Anthony (Barrysville, N.Y./Eldred Central) was named the Rookie of the Meet. The Bison also set three meet records in the final day of competition. Bucknell finished behind Army (154.50), and Navy (140.50), respectively. American (82), Lafayette (46), Lehigh (43), Colgate (28) and Holy Cross (4) finished four thru eight.
Forys placed first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8 minutes, 13.13 seconds, which was a new meet record and an IC4A qualifying mark. His time also moved him into fourth place all-time in school history. Anthony set a new meet record in the triple jump after jumping a distance of 49 feet, 7 ¾ inches (15.13m), which was an IC4A mark and a new personal best. Sophomore Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) captured victories in the 200 and 400 with times of 22.22 and 48.36, respectively.
Sophomore Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) posted a third-place finish in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.37. Junior Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) placed sixth in the 800 with a time of 1:54.62, which is an IC4A qualifying mark.
The team of MacLeod, Boyle, senior Matthew Bonelli (Califon, N.J./Pingry School) and freshman Gregory Baxter (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) finished third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:20.32. The group of senior Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon), Mooney, and freshman Clement Gyan (Yonkers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) and Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Gov. Dummer Acad.) placed fourth in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:18.29, which was an IC4A qualifying time.
"Although third place is a huge improvement, it's a little bittersweet," said head coach Kevin Donner. "We had opportunities to win the meet. We have a great group of veterans that have developed very well. Thanks to the admissions office last year, in particular Jessica Hess, we were able to land a lot of promising freshman. We look forward to the outdoor season."
The Bucknell men's indoor track and field team will compete in the IC4A Championships on March 3, in Boston, Mass.
