LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's basketball senior Hope Foster (Washington, D.C./Dunbar) has been selected as one of 30 candidates nationally for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Tuesday. The honor will be presented at the Final Four in April to the senior women's basketball student-athlete who exemplifies the "Four C's" of classroom, character, community and competition the best.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the award was launched during the 2001-02 season to honor the attributes of college basketball seniors who remain committed to their university and pursue the many rewards that a senior season and complete college education brings.
Now in its seventh year for basketball, the award has developed into the nation's premier tribute for college seniors. Since originating with basketball, Lowe's has expanded the award to include a total of eight NCAA sports.
Foster is one of just two Patriot League players to be listed, joining Army's Cara Enright. A total of 29 schools and 16 conferences are represented among the candidates. From that list of 30 nominees, a national media committee will select 10 finalists in January. Those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote during the NCAA Tournament in March. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient.
The 2007 Patriot League Player of the Year and this season's Preseason Player of the Year, Foster is averaging 10.9 points and a team-best 7.1 rebounds per game. She leads the team in blocks with 18 and is now just 31 away from equaling the Patriot League career record. Foster is also just 24 points shy of 1,000 for her career. She will be the 16th Bison player to reach that milestone.
Foster and her Bucknell teammates will be in action Tuesday night when they host George Mason at 7 p.m. It is the final game before an 11-day break for finals for the Bison, who stand at 2-5 this year.
