Bucknell Women's Track and Field Starts Season With Solid Showing At Bison Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's track and field team started the 2007-08 indoor season at home on Saturday, with the Bison Opener. On the women's side, Bucknell had two athletes win an event and one athlete post an ECAC-qualifying mark.
Junior Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) took first in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:12.07. Freshman Alexa Griffiths (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) took third, clocking a time of 18:12.07.
In the 3,000-meter run, Bucknell took the top-three places with senior Lisa Prybella (Southampton, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Acad.) taking first (10:49.75), sophomore Gabrielle Skovira (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) taking second (10:55.12) and freshman Colleen Gavigan (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abingdon Heights) in third (10:56.19).
Freshman Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) posted the highest mark of collegiate competitors in the meet in the pole vault. She notched an ECAC-qualifying mark of 11-9 ¾, to place herself fourth on Bucknell's top-10 list for the event.
In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Stephanie Evans (York, Pa./Central York) placed 12th in the final with a time of 8.09, after clocking an 8.08 in the prelim to tie the sixth-fastest time in Bucknell history.
Junior Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagra Wheatfield) led the Bison in the 200-meter dash, placing 10th with a time of 27.19, while Evans followed in 11th with a time of 27.24.
Sophomore Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands) was the top finisher for the Bison in the 400-meter run, placing fifth with a time of 59.72. Hathaway followed in seventh with a time of 1:00.67.
In the final for the mile, senior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) was the top-finisher for the Bison in fourth with a time of 5:13.31. Sophomore Laura Cundey (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) followed in sixth place with a time of 5:22.72.
Senior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) led the Bison in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:19.13 for fifth place, while junior Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) followed in ninth with a time of 1:20.63.
Freshman Leighann Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) clocked the fastest time for Bucknell in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:25.53 for third place.
In the final for the 1,000-meter run, sophomore Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) led the Bison with a third-place finish in 3:02.29. She was followed by senior Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) in fifth (3:02.60) and junior Emily Selonik (Crownsville, Md./McDonogh) in ninth (3:18.21).
The Bucknell 4x400 relay team of Hathaway, Pierce, Dalzell and Janda clocked a 3:59.85 for fifth place.
Pierce led Bucknell in the long jump, placing fifth with a mark of 17-6, while freshman Casey Krause (Cebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) followed in seventh, posting a distance of 17-4 3/4.
Sophomore Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) tied for third in the high jump with a mark of 5-3. Mantush also took second in the Pentathlon, tallying 3,354 points.
Senior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) led Bucknell in both the shot put and the weight throw. She posted the seventh-best all-time mark for Bucknell in the shot put (42-11 ½) for third and took fifth in the weight throw (50-9 ¼).
The Bison are now set to prepare for the Gulden Relays at home on January 12.
