LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Molly Linhart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) scored her first career game-winning goal as the Bucknell women's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout over Navy on Varsity Soccer Field this Friday evening. With the victory, the Bison improve to 1-0 in Patriot League play, 5-6-0 overall, while the Mids drop to 6-4-2, 0-1 in the league.
The Orange and Blue wasted little time getting on the board, scoring on the squad's first shot of the game, 8:45 into the contest. Senior Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) sent a feed to Linhart, perfectly placed behind Navy's defenders, which Linhart drove past goalkeeper Lizzie Barnes with a shot along the ground, just inside the far post. The assist for Gentile was her 12th of her career, bringing her into a tie for sixth in program history in that category. It marked her 70th career point, as well.
That would be all the offense Bucknell would need as the team allowed just three shots on goal the rest of the way, none in the second half. Sophomore Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) stopped all three attempts by the Mids, picking up her third shutout of the season.
In overall shots, the Bison held a 13-11 advantage, while corner kicks were even at two for each squad. Barnes recorded five saves for Navy. Fouls were 13-12, against the Mids.
Bucknell will remain idle until next Friday, Oct. 12, when the Orange and Blue will travel to Worcester, Mass., for a 4 p.m. Patriot League match against Holy Cross.
