Bucknell Men's Tennis Set For ITA Regionals

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team is set to travel to Princeton, N.J., for ITA Regionals this weekend, Oct. 19 - 20. The Bison are coming off a successful weekend at the Quinnipiac Invitational where Bucknell had a doubles team win the Flight B bracket and a singles player take the title in Flight D. This weekend will mark the end of the 2007 fall season for Bucknell.

At the Quinnipiac Invitational Last Weekend -
- Junior Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) won Flight D singles, going undefeated on the weekend. He defeated James McGuire of Rhode Island in the final round, 6-3, 2-6, 10-7, on Sunday after picking up wins against Bob Kelly of Fairfield (7-6, 6-2) in the first round, Aaron Ribchinsky of UConn (7-6, 4-6, 10-3) in the second round, and Dixon Simmons of Rhode Island in the semifinal (6-2, 6-4).
- The Bison pair of junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif/Canyon) and sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) took home the title for Flight B doubles, defeating McGuire and Gart of Rhode Island (9-8) in the final round. The duo went 8-6 over Kasyanov and Conrad Sacred Heart in the semifinal and also picked up wins against Bobitski and Ribchinsky of UConn (8-6) in the first round and Simmons and Nelson of Rhode Island (8-2) in the second round.
- In Flight A doubles, the Bison team of senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) and freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Canada/Milton Academy - Mass.) advanced to the final round, but dropped the match, 9-8, to Mikkelson and Pease of Quinnipiac.
- Senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Kovic both advanced to the semifinal in Flight C singles. Young fell to Christian Malerba of UConn (6-4, 6-2) and Kovic fell to Tom Cook of UConn (6-7, 7-5) in the semifinal round.
The Bison Men in 2007 -
- Reibeisen has tallied new all-time records for Bucknell in combined, singles and doubles career victories. After the Quinnipiac Invitational, Reibeisen holds a 65-44 career singles record, 57-48 career doubles record and 122-94 career combined record.
- Bucknell's No. 1 singles player, Reibeisen, holds an 8-5 record for the season, 6-4 while playing Flight 1.
- Sandburg owns a 7-4 singles record for the season, 1-1 at Flight 1 and 4-3, while playing in Flight 2. Sandburg is just one win shy of Reibeisen in career doubles victories.
- In doubles, junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and Sandburg hold an 11-2 record on the season and an 8-2 record in Flight 1 play. Also in doubles play, Reibeisen and Kovic hold a 7-3 record on the season, and 6-2 record in Flight 1.
Bison Honors in 2007 -
- Reibeisen received an honorable mention for Patriot League Male Player of the Month on Oct. 3 for setting Bucknell all-time records for combined victories (113) and singles victories (61) after the UConn Invitational, Sept. 28-30.
Looking Ahead -
- ITA Regionals mark the end of the 2007 fall season for the Bison. The Bucknell men's tennis team will begin the regular season on Feb. 2, 2008 against Duquesne in Lewisburg, Pa.
