Bucknell Field Hockey Tops Cornell, 1-0, Monday Night

ITHACA, N.Y. - Junior Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) notched the lone goal of the game to bring the Bucknell field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Cornell on the road Monday night. The Bison now move to 7-7 on the season and 0-3 in the Patriot League while the Big Red now hold a record of 6-6 in 2007.
Boyer's seventh goal of the season came in the 12th minute of play off feed from junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) to mark Faust's seventh assist on the year. The Bison were able to maintain the 1-0 lead for the last 58 minutes to notch Bucknell's third shutout of the season.
Although Cornell made 12 shots in the contest, the Big Red only put two shots on goal and Bucknell sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) recorded the two saves to mark her first shutout of the season. Bucknell made eight shots in 70 minutes of play, putting four on goal. Cornell goalkeeper Shannon Prescott notched three saves, allowing one Bison goal in the contest.
"It was a great team effort, we played great team hockey tonight," said head coach Heather Lewis, "Everyone trusted everyone else and we were able to finish with the outcome we deserved."
The Bucknell field hockey team is now set to host Patriot League foe Holy Cross this Saturday, Oct. 20 at 12 p.m.
