LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's golf team will take advantage of Fall Break to play in two tournaments in the next five days. The Bison will be at the Scarlet Knight Invitational, hosted by Rutgers, on Friday at Saturday and Richmond's Spider Fall Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
Bucknell has played just once thus far in a fall schedule that is weighted toward the back end of the season. The Bison last played two weeks ago at Penn State's fall invitational.
Bison Women's Golf Notebook
More on this Week -
- Bucknell will be one of 17 teams competing at the Rutgers Invitational. The event will be held at the par-72, 5,887-yard Rutgers Golf Course. The challenging layout is known for its narrow fairways, and half of the holes have water hazards in play.
- The Bison have played very well at the Rutgers Invitational in years past. Last year, Bucknell held the first-round lead and ended up finishing second to Columbia by one shot. Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) placed second individually with rounds of 78-76. As a team, the Bison shot 316-328.
- Other results from the Rutgers Invitational: 5th in 1998, 4th in 1999, 7th in 2000, 2nd in 2001 and 5th in 2003.
- Three of Bucknell's top 36-hole team scores in school history have come at RU Golf Course (644 in 2006, 647 in 2001 and 648 in 2003).
- The Spider Fall Invitational will be held at Independence G.C. in Midlothian, Va. The Tom Fazio design opened in 2001, making it one of Virginia's newest championship-level courses.
- Bucknell played in this event for the first time last year, when it was held at Virginia Crossings G.C. The Bison finished third out of 12 teams with team scores of 334-323. Loughney shot a pair of 79s for her second straight top-5 finish (T-4th), and she went on to earn Big South Golfer of the Week honors for her efforts.
About the Bison in 2007 -
- In their lone outing thus far, Bucknell tied for 11th in a very strong field at the Nittany Lion Women's Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The Bison shot 329-334-326.
- Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) shot a career-low 78 in the second round and was Bucknell's top finisher (T32nd, 244).
- Freshman Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) made a strong collegiate debut, shooting 81-84-80 to finish T35th.
- Loughney and Kathryn Batchelor (Lawrenceville, N.J./Princeton Day School) both shot 250 and tied for 48th. Batchelor's final-round 80 tied Jurenovich for the team's low round of the day.
Looking Ahead -
- Bucknell's terrific fall schedule heats up on Oct. 29-30, when the Bison head to the Ross Resorts Invitational at Pine Needles Resort, site of this summer's U.S. Women's Open.
