LEWISBURG, Pa - Bucknell seniors Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) and Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) along with freshmen Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) and Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) were honored by the Patriot League Tuesday for their performances in the Gulden Relays last Saturday inside Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Grap was named Female Field Performer of the Week after throwing a distance of 65 feet, 1 ¼ inches (19.84m) in the weight throw. Her distance made her a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. in March. She also broke her own school and fieldhouse record by four inches. The Van Etten, N.Y., native took first place in the shot put with a length of 45-3 and qualified for the ECAC Championships. Grap was named Field MVP of the Gulden Relays. This is also the senior's second weekly honor this season.
Sawko earned Female Track Performer of the week. She teamed with Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), Chessa Forer (New York, N.Y./Deerfield Academy) and Kalle James-Wintjen (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) to break a 17-year-old record in the sprint medley relay with a time of 4 minutes, 5.44 seconds, which was good for first place. The group was a second off from breaking the fieldhouse record held by George Mason. The senior also paired with Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga), Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) to win the 4x400 with a time of 4:02.75.
Mantush notched her first Female Rookie of the Week award of her collegiate career. Mantush placed first in the long jump with a distance of 17-8 (5.38m). She teamed with Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield), Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Fink in the sprint medley that finished second with a time of 4:16.59. Mantush also posted a third-place finish in the high jump with a height of 5-2 ¼ (1.58m).
Anthony earned his second Male Rookie of the Week honor of the season after notching his second long jump victory with a length of 23-0 (7.01m), just 3cm short of the IC4A qualifying mark. The freshman currently stands fourth in school history in the long jump and second in the triple jump.
The Bucknell indoor track and field teams will next compete in the Bucknell Heptagonal on Saturday, Jan. 20, in Gerhard Fieldhouse. The meet will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the field events, while the running events will start at noon.
