Bison Women's Tennis Wraps Up Day Two Of Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa - The Bucknell women's tennis squad completed the second day of competition at its Bucknell Invitational Saturday afternoon, winning a combined 12 matches, including nine doubles victories. Due to rainy conditions, the invitational was moved inside to Gerhard Fieldhouse to complete the doubles competition.
Sophomore Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) won a three-set tiebreaker in the quarterfinal of the Flight A back draw, 3-6, 6-3, (10-4), against Kaitlin Hallahan of Mount St. Mary's. Freshman Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale) dropped Mount St. Mary's Jen Iosue in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 in the main draw of the Flight B quarterfinal, while sophomore JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) beat fellow senior teammate Kelly Porter (Chappaqua, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart, 6-1, 6-0.
In the Flight A doubles competition, Globerman and freshman Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) met fellow Bison Calcaterra and sophomore Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) in the finals. Globerman and Varela came out on top as they won the match, 8-4. Globerman and Varela beat Loyola's Caitlyn Day and Stephanie Dunn, Villanova's Candice Carlin and Carla Erskine, and Toledo's Myriam Cuevo and Martina Wodzinski on their way to the finals. The pair improved to 10-0, while collecting two Flight titles on the season. Calcaterra and Gamboa improved to 5-2 overall as the duo dropped Lauren Cassle and Kerri Swan of Loyola, Mirelva Colon and Megan Gurek of Marist, and Duquesne's Rachal McGowen and Johanna Bezjak on its way to the finals.
In the Flight B doubles, freshmen Kirstyn Sotak (Beechwood, Ohio, Hathaway) and Renee Weissand (Honeoye, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) lost their semifinal matchup to Villanova's Daniella Phillis and Lyndsey Lostritto, 8-4.
The Bucknell women's tennis team will be back in action Sunday, Oct. 1, in Lewisburg, Pa. for the conclusion of the Bucknell Invitational.
