LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) scored twice to help the Bucknell women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Duquesne Saturday afternoon on Varsity Soccer Field. The victory was the squad's fourth straight and improved the Bison to 5-3-1 on the year. The Dukes' record dropped to 1-5-1 with the loss.
Following a Duquesne corner kick, the ball came to sophomore Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) who began a rush up the field for the Orange and Blue with Gentile. Dervarics was taken down, resulting in a penalty kick for the Bison, which Gentile converted at 33:26 to give Bucknell a 1-0 lead.
Then in the 40th minute, there was a scramble in front after a Bison throw in, allowing Gentile to net her second of the game and fifth of the season with junior Kimberly Cannon (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) being credited with the assist.
Bucknell went on to score once more in the contest as freshman Chelsea Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla./Palm Harbor University HS) tallied her first collegiate goal on a knuckling outside shot at 72:21.
Senior goalkeeper Katie Dry (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) made five saves and logged her third shutout of the season for the Bison, while Virginia Bondi recorded two saves for the Dukes. Bucknell led in shots, 17-10, for the contest, corner kicks were even at five and fouls were 9-8, against the Orange and Blue.
The Bison are set to begin the Patriot League portion of their schedule as the team will play host to Colgate on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. on Varsity Soccer Field.
