POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Senior Jennifer Margolis (Englishtown, N.J./Manalapan) scored the game-winner and recorded an assist, helping the Bucknell women's soccer team come from behind to defeat Marist, 2-1, on Wednesday evening. The victory improved the Bison to 4-3-1 on the year and marked the team's third consecutive win, while the Red Foxes slipped to 2-5.
Marist jumped out in front in the 26th minute as Maria Baez fired a shot from 20 yards out into the corner of the net, giving the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
After being outshot in the first half, 6-5, the Orange and Blue came out strong in the second and held Marist to one shot on goal in the period.
At 49:37, sophomore Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) tied the score for Bucknell. Sophomore Leah Grimm (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) sent a pass to Margolis who fed Dervarics with a cross for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Then 82:10 into the contest, junior Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) found Margolis amidst a scramble in front of the net following a Bison corner and Margolis sent the ball home for the game-winning tally. With three points in the match, Margolis brought her career total to 57 and vaulted into fourth all-time in Bucknell history.
The Bison outshot the Red Foxes, 14-9 and led in corner kicks, 7-3. Senior goalkeeper Katie Dry (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) made six saves for the Orange and Blue, with her final stop coming with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation, while Caitlin Nazarechuk turned aside four shots on net for Marist.
Fouls were 7-6 against the Red Foxes.
