Drexel Downs Bucknell Field Hockey In Overtime 2-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey squad dropped a 2-1 overtime loss to Drexel on Friday night at Graham Field. The Bison suffered their first home setback of the season and fell to 4-2 on the year, while the Dragons improved to 6-1.
Drexel jumped on the scoreboard early when Amanda Horvat's shot went past the Bucknell goalkeeper in the sixth minute. The goal was assisted by Sarah Gostomski. The first half would close out in a 1-0 lead for the Dragons. The Orange and Blue outshot Drexel 3-2 while the Dragons held the advantage in penalty corners 3-2.
In the second half, the team defense of both squads kept the match at 1-0. But with 41 seconds left in the half, Bucknell sophomore Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) notched her fifth goal of the season off a penalty corner from sophomore Steph Graf (Jamison, Pa/Central Bucks East).
In overtime, the Bison gave up their second goal of the match at 70:38 when Gostomski scored off a fastbreak. The Bison outshot the Dragons 9-6 with a 7-5 advantage on penalty corners. Drexel goalkeeper Colleen McAndrews recorded seven saves while Bucknell goalkeeper Emily Groendyke (Glen Gardner, Pa./Voorhees) notched two saves.
The Orange and Blue will next travel to Lock Haven, Pa. to battle Lock Haven on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
