LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's golf team goes in search of its second straight tournament title this Friday and Saturday when it hosts the annual Bucknell Invitational at the Bucknell Golf Club. The event consists of 36 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, followed by 18 holes starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
As the host team the Bison will have two teams entered in a 15-team field. Others include Colgate, Lehigh and Lafayette from the Patriot League, as well as Duquesne, Rider, Mount St. Mary's, Robert Morris, Susquehanna, La Salle, Fordham, St. Francis (Pa.), St. Peter's and Messiah.
Bucknell won the Colgate Invitational last weekend, shooting 298-295 to defeat Binghamton by three shots. Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and Keita Aoki (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School) both shot 73-72 to finish two strokes off the individual lead.
This week coach Jim Cotner will field a bit of an unusual lineup, grouping his five seniors together in one team and pitting them against a quintet of underclassmen for some intrasquad bragging rights.
Waddell, Patrick Yingling (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area), Chas Wagner (Oakmont, Pa./Hampton), Kyle Moran (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick School) and Ryan Hom (New York, N.Y./Poly Prep) make up the senior group.
The underclass team consists of Aoki, a junior, and four freshmen - Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck), Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck), Jeff Pike (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and Ryan Schneiter (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest). Bartow (75-74) and Cohen (77-77) debuted last week at Colgate and performed very well, while Pike and Schneiter will compete for the first time in a collegiate tournament this weekend.
Also for Bucknell, juniors Rahul Desai (Avon, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) and Stuart Lindgren (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) along with sophomore Brian Poe (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) will compete as individuals.
