Bucknell Field Hockey Shuts Out Longwood 3-0

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team dropped Longwood 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Graham Field behind a two-goal effort from sophomore Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West). Senior Anne Lutz (Allentown, Pa./William Allen), added two assists in the match for the Bison, who improved to 4-1 this season.
The score was deadlocked at 0-0 after the first half. Bucknell broke the tie in the second half when Faust scored the first of her two goals from Lutz in the 39th minute of the match. In the 51st minute, senior Callista Costopoulos (Shermans Dale, Pa./West Perry) notched her team leading fifth goal of the season when she received a pass from junior Katie Leinen (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East). Lutz would hook up with Faust when she shot a laser past the goalkeeper to put the Bison up 3-0 in the match with just under seven minutes to go.
Senior Emily Groendyke (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) recorded her first career shutout and notched three saves in the Bison victory while Lancers goalkeeper Erin West recorded six saves. Bucknell outshot Longwood 10-6 and held the edge in penalty corners with a 13-6 advantage. Costopoulos and Faust lead the squad in points with 11 this season while Lutz tops the team with six assists.
The Bison are back in action Friday Sept. 15, when they battle the Drexel Dragons at 7 p.m. at Graham Field.
