LORETTO, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey squad recorded its second win of the season on Tuesday night, beating Saint Francis (Pa.) 10-2 in the Red Flash's home opener. The Orange and Blue was led by senior Katie Urosevich (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), who recorded two goals and one assist, and junior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley), who notched two goals of her own.
The Red Flash struck first when junior Annie Paccione scored one of her two goals of the match from 10 feet out to put her team up at the 3:30 mark. The Bison would answer back at the 16-minute mark when sophomore Trina Boyer scored in front of the net. Four minutes later, sophomore Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) shot one past the Saint Francis goalkeeper to put Bucknell on top 2-1. Seconds later Hoffman would score back-to-back goals, which were both assisted by Faust, to put the Bison up three with six minutes remaining in the half. Junior Chyncia Smith (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) would record her first goal of the season when given a pass from senior Anne Lutz (Allentown, Pa./William Allen).
In the second half, Bucknell continued its strong play. Urosevich collected her second and third goals of the season when she hit in a deflected shot from Callista Costopoulos (Shermans Dale, Pa./West Perry) and a pass from Lutz, respectively. Urosevich would return the favor when she assisted Costopoulos on the following goal putting the Orange and Blue up six. Freshmen Megan Krebs (Wilkes Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) and Austin Thomas (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) score back-to-back goals in the 60th and 62nd minutes of the match, respectively.
The Bison outshot the Red Flash 18-10 while recording 11 penalty corners to the opponents four. Senior Emily Groendyke (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) picked up her second win of the season and collected six saves in the victory.
Bucknell returns to action Saturday afternoon when it travels to New Jersey to do battle with Monmouth. The match will begin at 12 p.m.
