Bucknell Field Hockey Starts Season with 5-0 Shutout over Robert Morris

Lewisburg - Today the Bucknell field hockey squad opened the 2006 season with a 5-0 victory over Robert Morris at Graham Field. The Bison defense recorded their first shutout of the season allowing zero shots in the match as the team improved to 1-0 on the season while the Colonials dropped to 0-1.
Bucknell got of to a strong start with senior Katie Urosevich (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) scoring the first goal of the season on a strong cross field pass from her senior teammate Anne Lutz (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) 13 minutes into the match. Senior Alex Kyzmir (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) came off the bench to score the second goal of the match off a penalty corner from sophomore Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West).
Junior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) would record her first assist on the season when senior Callista Costopoulos (Shermans Dale, Pa./West Perry) shot a laser past the Colonial goalkeeper off a penalty corner. With less than six minutes left in the first half, the Bison struck again when sophomore Jacquie Kataneksza (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) notched her first collegiate goal. Bucknell finished the first half with 16 shots.
In the second, the Orange and Blue continued to keep offensive and defensive pressure on the Colonials receiving six penalty corners, and with eight seconds remaining in the half, sophomore Emily Hutchison (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) recorded her first collegiate goal on a penalty shot.
The Bucknell offense recorded 17 shots on goal and received 12 penalty corners. The Bison also outshot the Colonials 27-0. Junior goalkeeper Kate Dunlap recorded 12 saves for the Colonials.
The Bucknell field hockey squad will be back in action at Saint Francis on Tuesday evening with the match beginning at 7 p.m.
