LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second time this spring, the Bucknell women's rowing team earned the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week award. The varsity eight claimed the honor based on its win over Navy to clinch Bucknell's first-ever Patriot League title.
Trailing first-place Navy by one point entering the varsity eight competition, the Bison needed to finish one spot ahead of the Mids in the standings to capture the championship. Bucknell proceeded to edge out Navy by more than two seconds as it finished in 6 minutes, 39.098 seconds. The Mids were second in 6:41.555.
The members and seat positions of the varsity eight were coxswain-Coral Swartz, stroke-Kelly Henkler, 7-Jennie Trayes, 6-Kate Brewster-Duffy, 5-Christine Drasba, 4-Brittany Kaplan, 3-Page Kannor, 2-Lauren Olsen and bow-Sophie Bird.
The performance of the varsity eight capped a strong day for Bucknell as the varsity four posted a victory and the second varsity eight claimed runner-up honors.
