Bison Women Complete First Day of Action at Penn Relays

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The first day of action for Bucknell women's track and field at the high-caliber Penn Relays concluded on Thursday evening at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. The distance medley relay team turned in the Bison's highest finish on the day and also set a new school record, with a time of 11 minutes, 41.57 seconds.
On the field for the Bison, freshman Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) competed in the high jump and turned in a ninth-place mark of 5-3 3/4, while junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler) finished fifth in the pole vault and turned in a season's best mark of 13-1 1/2. Junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) competed in both the hammer throw and the discus and turned in a fifth place, 178-7 hammer mark, and a 140-10 heave in the discus (20th overall).
Sophomore Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) finished 10th in the javelin with a toss of 134-7, while junior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) finished 17th in the long jump, with a mark of 17-9.
The fourth-place distance medley relay squad consisted of sophomore Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) and juniors Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley).
The relays are scheduled to continue on Friday, with athletes competing in nine total events for the Orange and Blue.
