EASTON, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team bounced back after dropping the doubles point, to take five of the six singles matches away from Lafayette, for the 5-2 win, on Sunday afternoon at the Sullivan Courts in Easton, Pa. The win puts the Bison at an even 1-1 in the Patriot League.
After managing to only win one match in doubles, the Orange and Blue turned its play around to fight and eventually secure five singles points.
Winning the first singles match of the day and setting the score even at 1-1 was sophomore Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day Upper), in the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-2 over Alex Goergen. Junior Matt Pikus (Medford, N.J./Lenape) then fell in the No. 3 spot in a very tight, 1-6, 6-3, 1-6 match, to give the Leopards the 1-2 lead. Freshman Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) stepped in and won in the No. 5 position, 7-5, 6-1, to set the score at 2-2, just before senior Asher Salam (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) captured a victory in the No. 2 spot over Brett Warren, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
With the possibility to win the match, sophomore John Lashnits (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace) stood up to the pressure and sealed the win for Bucknell in the No. 4 spot, over Brett Kraft, 6-3, 7-5 (5). Sophomore Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) went onto win in the No. 6, but the damage had already been done.
The Bison will return to action on Friday, April 7, as they travel to battle Stony Brook. The Match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
