BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 victory over Bloomsburg on Tuesday afternoon. The Bison (8-10, 3-2 PL) took two of three doubles points, per Division II rules, and won five of six singles matches against the Huskies (13-3).
At No. 1 doubles, senior Veronica Brown (Derwood, Md./Col/ Zadok Magruder) and freshman Tiffany Card (Little Sliver, N.Y./Red Bank Regional) came through for Bucknell with a 8-5 win over Iida Hokkanen and Torie Cunningham, while senior Chelsea Mills (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and sophomore Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) picked up the second doubles point for the Orange and Blue, defeating Lindsey Wyckoff and Emily Murphy, 8-2.
Brown, Mills and Baffa all earned singles victories for the Bison as well. Brown bested Hokkanen at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2 and Mills won over Murphy in the No. 2 spot, 7-5, 6-1. Baffa collected a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Tracy Nissen at No. 6 singles.
Bucknell's other two singles points came at No. 4 with freshman Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) defeating Wyckoff, 6-2, 6-2 and in the No. 5 spot, freshman JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) downed Lauren Colfer in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8).
The Bison return to action on Saturday, April 22, when the team travels to West Point, N.Y., to battle Lehigh in the Patriot League Tournament at 2 p.m.
