Bucknell Women's Golf Moves Up to Fifth at Big South Championship

McCALLA, Ala. - The Bucknell women's golf team shot 320 on Tuesday, a two-stroke improvement on its first-round score, and moved up a spot to fifth place after the second of three rounds of the PUPS/PDPS Big South Championship at Bent Brook Golf Course. Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) shot her second straight 4-over-par 76 to remain in a tie for eighth place individually.
Loughney, who was named to the Big South Academic All-Conference Team on Monday night, is looking to repeat as an all-league performer on the course. At 8-over 152 for the tournament, she is nine strokes out of the lead but only four shots out of second place. Erin White of Winthrop is 1-under through 36 holes and is the only golfer in red numbers.
Top-seeded Birmingham Southern shot 298 on Tuesday and extended its lead over second-place Winthrop to five strokes. Birmingham Southern is at 599 for the tournament, followed by Winthrop at 604, Coastal Carolina and High Point at 618, Bucknell at 642, Radford at 656, Charleston Southern at 663 and Holy Cross at 730.
The Bison trailed Radford by five shots entering the second round before outscoring the Highlanders 320 to 339 on Tuesday.
Also for Bucknell in the second round, Teri Schlang (Albany, N.Y./Stratton Mountain School) and Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) shot 81, Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) shot 82 and Kathryn Batchelor (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) signed for an 84.
Bucknell, which was seeded fifth coming into the tournament, will conclude play at the Big South Championship on Wednesday morning.
