LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team collected its first honor of the 2005-06 competition year on Monday, March 6, as senior Chelsea Mills (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) received the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week award for her performance in the 4-3 Orange and Blue upset over UMBC on Saturday, March 4.
With the match tied at three points apiece, it was time for Mills to battle UMBC's Cornelia Carapcea at the No. 2 singles spot. After suffering a quick 2-6 loss in the first set, Mills decided she was not going to fall without a fight and battled back to win the second set, 6-3, before ending with a 6-4 victory in the third, which sealed the win for the Bison.
The victory set Bucknell even in the all-time series record with UMBC at 5-5.
The Orange and Blue will travel to South Carolina during spring break (March 11-19) to battle College of Charleston (March 14, 2 p.m.), Charleston Southern (March 15, 1 p.m.) and Coastal Carolina (March 17, 12 p.m.). The trip will be rounded-out with a battle against Richmond, in Richmond, Va., Sunday, March 19 at 10 a.m.
