POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Bison men's tennis continues to look for a win as they lost a very tough match to Marist, 5-2, on Friday, March 31, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The match could've gone either way as the score does not reflect the effort on the day.
In singles action, both freshman Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper) and senior Asher Salam (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) played very well in three sets each, while starting out a little bit slow, but then turning their play around in the second and third sets. Unfortunately neither athlete could pull out a win as Reibeisen fell in the No. 1, 3-6, 6-7 (7-4), 6-2, while Salam lost in the No. 2, 3-6, 6-2, 5-7.
Winning the two matches for the Orange and Blue were freshmen Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade), in the No. 5 (7-6, 0-6, 6-4) and No. 6 (2-6, 7-5, 6-2) spots, respectively.
The duo of Sandburg and sophomore John Lashnits (Chappaqua, N.Y./Chaminade) won Bucknell's lone doubles match of the night, 9-7.
"We competed well," said assistant coach Steve Monge. "We played our best tennis when we were battling from behind. We just can't afford to get down and then start playing well, we need to come out strong, right from the beginning."
The Bison will return to action on Sunday, April 2, in Easton, Pa., for a Patriot League contest against Lafayette. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
