LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the first time in the history of the award, members of the Bucknell women's rowing team were honored with the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week award as the second varsity eight boat copped honors based on its victory at the Murphy Cup last weekend.
After winning its heat in a time of 7 minutes, 3.65 seconds, more than 12 seconds ahead of runner-up Temple, the second varsity eight posted its first-ever win at the Murphy Cup. The Bison nipped Patriot League foe Navy by less than a second in the finals, crossing the finish line in 7:09.89. No other teams were within 15 seconds of Bucknell and Navy.
The members and seat positions of the second varsity eight were coxswain-Jeweliet Yost, stroke-Caitlin Doolin, 7-Whittney Henry, 6-Jessica Glenn, 5-Laura Roberts, 4-Gillian Carter, 3-Erin Henry, 2-Alexis Will and bow-Amanda Roof.
The performance of the second varsity eight capped the best-ever day for Bucknell at the Murphy Cup as all four boats that competed Saturday advanced to the finals.
