Bucknell Track and Field Completes Successful Day at Jim Taylor Invitational

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Bucknell track and field teams competed at the Jim Taylor Invitational down the road at the Nicholas A. Lopardo Stadium at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa., on Saturday, March 25. Sophomore Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) won the shot put, discus and the hammer throw and qualified for the ECAC Championships in the discus.
Junior Eric Guja (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) finished fourth in the 200-meter with a time of 23.04 seconds and third in the 400 (50.87), while junior Derrin Pierret (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) took a third place finish in the 1500 (4:00.14).
The Bison men swept the 3000 steeplechase, for a one-two-three finish with junior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) in the lead in 9:20.82, setting an Invitational record, while senior Kevin Brown (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) finish second (9:44.67), with freshman Joe Foley (Howell, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic) in third (10:06.56).
Sophomore David Mante (Warwich, N.Y./Warwick Valley) won the pole vault, setting both a personal and Stadium record with a leap of 15 feet, 7 inches, also placing third in the Orange and Blue record books and qualifying for the IC4A Championships.
Junior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) took second in the hammer with a mark of 171-5, and qualified for the IC4A's, also placing seventh on the Bison top-10 list.
On the women's side, the field events were the strongest as Mockbee won the shot with a mark of 38-11 1/2, the discus, 142-9, and the hammer 145-8. Her discus mark also set an Invitational record and places her fifth on the school record list.
The 4x100 team of junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler), junior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport), freshman Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) and senior Danielle Todman (Scotch Plains, N.J./Bishop George Ahr), won the event with a time of 49.88.
Freshman Andrea Asimoglou (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) won the pole vault with a leap of 10, while junior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) dominated in the triple jump, 36 3/4. Sophomore Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) won the javelin (140) and also qualified for the ECAC's, as Reinhardt won the long jump, 17-9.
Dempsey also placed second in the high jump (5-0).
Junior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) finished third in the 5000 with a time of 18:17.40, while freshman Kate Beckett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) took a third place finish in the 400 hurdles (1:11.71).
The Bison will return to action on Saturday, April 1, at the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
