TEGA CAY, S.C. - After two days of play at the season-opening tournament, The Shamrock, Bucknell's Amy Loughney (Macugnie, Pa./Allentown Central) is tied for the individual lead, while the Bison women's golf team stands fourth out of 13 teams.
Loughney has carded a 77 each of the first two days of the event for an overall score of 154. She is tied with Kenesaw State's Patricia Kim and Elon's Taylor Johnson for the top spot in the 72-player field. She is one of just five players in the field to shoot under 80 both days on the par-72 course.
As a team, Bucknell trails only host Winthrop, Elon and Longwood. Winthrop and Elon are tied for first with two-day scores of 634. Longwood holds third with a score of 648, four better than the 652 for the Bison. Bucknell's day-two total of 322 was second in the field behind Winthrop's 312.
In addition to Loughney, the Bison have three other team members among the top 30. Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) finished the second day of competition tied for 20th with a 84-81-165. Kathryn Batchelor (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) was just one stroke back with an 86-80-166 and tied for 23rd. Teri Schlang (Albany, N.Y./Stratton Mountain) also eclipsed 170, shooting 167 and tying for 29th.
Kristen Phalen (Duxbury, Mass./Tabor Academy) rounded out the list of Bucknell competitors, tying for 54th with a two-day total of 183.
Bucknell wraps up play at The Shamrock Sunday. Play begins at 8 a.m.
