CONWAY, S.C. - The Bucknell women's tennis team fell to No. 75 Costal Carolina by a score of 7-0 on Friday afternoon in Conway, S.C., as the Bison continue to look for a win during their spring break excursion.
In singles play, freshman Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) played a strong match as she pushed Coastal's Petra Jantti in the No. 3 position, but fell 6-4, 6-3. Gamboa gave the Bison the closest match of the day.
In doubles play, all three pairs; senior Veronia Brown (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) and Gamboa at the No. 1, senior Chelsea Mills (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and freshman Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) in the No. 2 and freshman JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Red Bank Regional) and sophomore Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow East) in the No. 3, had very strong outings, but just couldn't catch any breaks to secure the "W's" they wanted.
The first pair took Virginie Dinh and Hayley Rudman to a 8-4 game, while Mills and Globerman finished their set at the short end of a 8-3 score. The third pair battled, but fell 8-4 to Sofie Ahleberg and Sarize Coetzee.
The Orange and Blue will close out its spring break trip on Sunday, March 19, as it travels to Richmond, Va., on the way back home to battle Richmond. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
