CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Bucknell tennis program suffered multiple losses as the men fell 7-0 to Charleston Southern, while the women lost 6-1, at the Charleston Southern University tennis facility, in Charleston, S.C., on Wednesday afternoon. Both teams currently are competing in S. C., for some spring-break outdoor action.
In the men's match, it was freshman Sidharth Makkar (Bronx, N.Y./Queens School of Science) who had the most successful outing of the day, as he took his No. 6 singles match into three sets, going 6-2, 6-7, and 3-10. Sophomore Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day) also played a strong match but fell in the No. 1 singles spot, 6-3, 6-4.
On the women's side, sophomore Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow East) collected the lone Bison point, while playing in the No. 5 singles spot, dominating over her opponent, 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles play, the pair of senior Chelsea Mills (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and freshman Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) won their match at the No. 2 spot, 8-3, as they played their strongest match of the spring break trip.
Senior Veronica Brown (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder), partnered with freshman Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates), played a tight match, but unfortunately, competition just didn't go their way as they fell in a heart-breaking 8-6 decision.
The men will return to action on Thursday to battle Illinois at 9 a.m. and The Citadel at 2 p.m., at the Citadel, in Charleston, S.C. The women will compete on Friday as they are scheduled to battle Coastal Carolina, in Conway, S.C. at noon.
