Bucknell Opens 2006 Action on Winning Note

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's women's lacrosse team started the season off in good fashion; with a 10-8 win over Binghamton, on Tuesday, Feb. 28, on its home turf at Graham Field in Lewisburg, Pa. The Bison were down 4-3 at the end of the first half, but came back and scored seven goals in the second half to secure the check mark in the wins column.
It was Binghamton who took the early lead and netted the first three goals of the game in just over 10 minutes of play. Bucknell finally answered and at the 10:27 minute mark, as senior Emily Burman (Kensington, Md./Stone Ridge) started a string of three Orange and Blue goals to even the score. Both freshmen Sarah Collins (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) and Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge) marked their first goals of their collegiate career in the group of three tallies.
Closing out the half, Binghamton's Heather Grose added a goal with 5:15 left to play.
The Bison struck out first in the second half as junior Erin Weinstein (Stanfordville, N.Y./Deerfield Acad.) found an open goal, just over three minutes into the fresh period, but Binghamton quickly added two goals of its own, setting the score at 6-4.
Within the last 18:30 of the game, Bucknell battled back and scored six goals, toppling Binghamton's two, marking the final score at 10-8.
Burman added two goals in the 12:30 stretch, including one with six seconds left on the clock, while Evans and Collins each contributed one.
Freshman Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) scored her first collegiate goal with exactly 15 minutes left in the game, while junior Lauren Kremer (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) also found the back of an open Binghamton net.
Defensively for the Bison, senior goalkeeper Lizzy McDaniel (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) collected six saves, one ground ball and one caused turnover. Buechel recorded four ground balls and one caused turnover, while Burman colleced three ground balls. Senior Rachel Prowler (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) was next on Bucknell's list with two groundballs.
The Orange and Blue will return to action this Thursday, March 2, against Penn State at Graham Field. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
