Bucknell Men's Swimming and Diving Remains Third Through Day Two of Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The team of freshman Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area), sophomore Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), senior Mark Kretzer (Northport, N.Y./Harborfields) and sophomore John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) captured second in the 200 medley relay as the Bucknell men's swimming and diving squad competed on day two of the Patriot League Championships in Navy's Lejeune Hall on Friday. Bucknell is currently third in the team standings with 396 points, behind Navy in first with 584 and Army in second with 407.5.
The 200 medley relay for the Bison recorded the second-best mark in school history in the event, posting a time of 1:32.12.
In the 100 breast, the Orange and Blue scored 43 points as senior William Schilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) collected the best individual finish for Bucknell's swimmers on day two, placing third in the event with a time of 57.16, which ranks third in the Bison record books. Sophomore Joseph Metcalf (Knoxville, Tenn./Philips Exeter Academy) followed in seventh with the fifth-best time in program history, 57.87, while freshman Michael Deighan (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) and junior Clifton Cazes (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlate) set new Bucknell top-10 marks as well. Deighan finished 10th with a time of 58.66, good for ninth all-time, and Cazes took 11th in the finals after posting a time of 58.55 in the preliminaries, which is eighth in school history.
In the 100 back, Kawczenski captured fifth in 51.00 and climbed into fourth on Bucknell's all-time list. Kretzer placed sixth in the event with a time of 51.31 and also scored points for the Bison in the 100 fly, finishing fifth with a time of 50.57 and set a new program top-10 mark with a time of 50.37 in the preliminaries for fifth on the list.
Senior Todd Bauer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) improved his personal best to move up to sixth in the program's top-10 in the 200 free, taking sixth in the event with a time of 1:42.07. Freshman Christopher Amato (East Norwich, N.Y.) won the 200 free "B" final to finish ninth overall (1:43.26) and set the ninth-best time in program history with his mark of 1:42.96 in the preliminaries.
Sophomore Theo Leriotis (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional Senior High) posted the 10th-best time on the Bucknell top-10 all-time list in the 400 IM, advancing out of the preliminaries with a time of 4:10.89. Leriotis went on to finish eighth in the finals with a time of 4:12.43.
In the one-meter dive, senior Adam Freeman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) scored 277.30 points to take third, while classmate Jake Thompson (Freeport, N.Y./Chaminade) was sixth with 252.30 points.
The Bison will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday Feb. 25, on the third and final day of the 2005-06 Patriot League Championships with the trials beginning at 10:30 am and finals at 6 p.m.
