LEWISBURG, Pa. - With 44 blocks in the season's first nine games, Bucknell junior Hope Foster (Washington, D.C./Dunbar) ranks second in the first NCAA statistical report of the 2006-07 women's basketball campaign, which was announced Monday and includes games through Dec. 3. The 6-2 forward is averaging 4.9 blocks per game.
Foster, who already owns every blocked shot record at Bucknell, is second to Duke's Alison Bales, who has 33 blocks in six games for an average of 5.5 per game. Last year Foster finished eighth nationally by rejecting 3.3 shots per contest. She finished with 95 blocks in 29 games.
With 211 career blocks, Foster ranks second in Patriot League history and is within 100 of the record. She has already obliterated the Bison career standard by nearly 80 blocks.
Foster, who owns three of the top four single-season block marks in Bucknell history, also owns the top two positions on the Bison single-game blocks list. She blocked eight shots in this year's season-opening win over Hampton and then eclipsed that record with an amazing 11 blocks against nationally ranked Michigan State and 6-9 center Allyssa DeHaan, who is third nationally in blocked shots. Twenty-three times in Bucknell's 34-year history has a player blocked at least five shots in a game with Foster accounting for 15 of those.
Thanks to Foster, Bucknell is 12th in the country in blocked shots per game at 5.7. Baylor and Duke are tied for the lead at 8.7.
In addition to her shot-blocking abilities, Foster is 68th in the country in rebounds per game (9.1) and 85th in field goal percentage (.522).
Foster and her teammates will take on Delaware State Tuesday night in Dover, Del. The Hornet have had their shots blocked nine times in four games this season. Tip-off for the final contest before final exams for the Bison is slated for 7 p.m.
