Bison Women's Swimming and Diving Begins Home Schedule with Successful Showing at Bucknell Sprint Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) was part of three winning relays and posted four top-three individual finishes as the Bison women's swimming and diving team enjoyed a successful home opener on Saturday in Kinney Natatorium as the team competed against American and Saint Francis (Pa.) in the non-scored Bucknell Sprint Invitational.
Mongan won the 100 IM with a time of one minute, 1.70 seconds, was the runner-up in the both the 50 fly and the 100 free, finishing in 27.21 and 54.23, respectively, and captured third in the 100 fly (1:00.22). She also helped the Bison post victories in the 200 free, 200 medley and the 400 free relays, teaming with junior Kristen Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins), sophomore Susan Horstmann (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), and senior Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) on the winning 200 free relay (1:40.02), with freshman Abigail Atkinson (Newton, Conn./Newton), sophomore Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen), and senior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) for the 200 medley relay (1:53.07) and with Scheffter, Horstmann and Skroski for the 400 free relay (3:39.82).
Freshman Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y,./Watkins Glen) and Scheffter were both double-winners for Bucknell as Warren took first in the 100 back in 1:01.38 and in the 50 back with a time of 28.58. Scheffter was victorious in the 50 free (25.07) and 100 free (54.18), while also posting a runner-up finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.17.
Senior Nikki Woodward (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Morris rounded out the individual winners for the Orange and Blue as Woodward recorded the top time of 1:09.60 in the 100 breast and Morris was first to touch the wall in the 50 breast (31.87). Morris also swam on Bucknell's first-place 400 medley relay squad with freshman Lauren Russell (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell), Munson and Horstmann (4:03.62).
The Bison next compete on Saturday, Nov. 11, when the team will take on Patriot League foes Navy and Lafayette beginning at 2 p.m. at home in Kinney Natatorium.
