Bison Men's Swimming and Diving Enjoys Successful Day at Bucknell Sprint Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - With eight individual wins and three victorious relays, the Bucknell men's swimming and diving squad enjoyed a successful home opener on Saturday in Kinney Natatorium as the team competed against American and Villanova in the non-scored Bucknell Sprint Invitational. Sophomore Jeffrey Manning (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll Jr./Sr. High), junior Grant Steadman (Richmond, Va./Collegiate), sophomore Christopher Amato (East Norwich, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), junior Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), junior John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor), sophomore Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area) and sophomore Michael Deighan (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) all recorded first-place finishes for the Bison.
Manning was Bucknell's lone double-winner as he was the top point scorer in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter dives with totals of 233.25 and 234.55, respectively.
Steadman placed first the 50 fly with a time of 24.04 while taking second in the 100 free in 48.46. Bennett was the first to touch the wall in the 50 breast, posting a time of 27.00, and came in second in the 100 IM (56.09). Peterman was victorious in the 100 free with a time of 48.33 and also collected a runner-up showing in the 50 free in 21.85. Deighan recorded his first-place finish in the 100 breast (59.60), while coming in second with a time of 27.57 in the 50 breast.
Amato and Kawczenski rounded out the individual winners for the Orange and Blue as Amato recorded the top time of 54.88 in the 100 back and Kawczenski took the top spot in the 50 back in 25.25.
Kawczenski helped the 400 medley relay to victory, combining with Bennett, senior Matt Crandell (Winchester, Va./John Handley), Peterman for a time of 3:36.50. He also swam the lead leg of Bucknell's 200 medley relay squad and collected first along with Bennett, Steadman, and Peterman in 1:38.01.
Bucknell swept the top two spots in the 400 free relay. Freshman Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove), Steadman, Kawczenski, and Peterman won the event with a time of 3:16.61, followed by the team of Bennett, Amato, Deighan and freshman Ben Leboza (Green Oaks, Ill./Libertyville) in second with a time of 3:17.90.
The Bison next compete on Saturday, Nov. 11, when the team will take on Patriot League foes Navy and Lafayette beginning at 2 p.m. at home in Kinney Natatorium.
