
Bucknell Men's Swimming & Diving Falls to UMBC, 137-75

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Coming off a second-place finish at the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational, the Bucknell men's swimming and diving squad dropped a 137-75 decision to Maryland-Baltimore County on Sunday in Kinney Natatorium. The Bison close out the first semester with a record of 3-2, (2-1 PL) while the Retrievers improved to 5-1 on the year.
Sophomore Jeffrey Manning (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll Jr./Sr. High) scored 243.30 points on the one-meter board to take second in the event, while also posting the second-highest score in the three meter dive, 226.05.
Senior Matt Crandell (Winchester, Va./John Handley) collected a runner-up showing for the Orange and Blue, as well, with his time of one minute, 55.99 seconds in the 200 fly and sophomore Michael Deighan (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) had the second-fastest time in the 200 breast, 2:11.39.
Junior John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) scored in the 50 and 100 freestyle events, with a third-place time of 48.61 in the 100 free and touched the wall in 22.48 in the 50 free, good for fourth.
Freshman Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) and sophomore Christopher Amato (East Norwich, N.Y./ Kellenberg Memorial) finished third and fourth for the Bison in the 200 free, with times of 1:46.85 and 1:47.34, respectively.
Freshman David Iselin (Potomac, Md./Churchill), sophomore Patrick Stummer (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) and junior Theo Leriotis (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional Senior High) rounded out Bucknell's top finishers, all with fourth-place showings in the meet. Iselin's came in the 200 back (2:00.09), Stummer's in the 500 free (4:53.30) and Leriotis' in the 200 IM (2.01.75).
Bucknell will remain idle until Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, when the squad will travel to Princeton, N.J., for a meet with Princeton that is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
