Bison Women's Swimming and Diving Second after Day One of the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison women's swimming and diving squad finished day one of the Bucknell/Trials Finals Invitational in second out of five teams competing in the two-day meet in Kinney Natatorium. The Orange and Blue, with 466 points, trail Towson, who leads the team scoring with 620 points, while Old Dominion is third (262), Rider fourth (242) and Binghamton fifth (153).
Sophomore Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) improved upon her 100 breast time from a week ago, which initially landed her in the Bucknell record books. She finished second in the event with a time of one minute, 6.54 seconds, to move up to second on the Bison top-10 list.
Freshman Lauren Russell (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) cracked the program's top-10 in the 100 back, finishing third in the event with a time of 1:06.54, good for 10th all-time. Russell also collected a third-place showing in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:11.59.
Freshman Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) came in third in the 50 free (25.04), while senior Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) was fifth in the event with a time of 25.41. In the 200 free, Scheffter turned in the fourth-fastest time in the "A" final, 1:57.09, while Mongan won the "B" final with a time of 1:56.33.
Senior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) rounded out Bucknell's top individual finishers in the swimming events with a time of 2:10.90 in the 200 fly to take fourth.
In one-meter diving, Eliza Massie (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) scored 226.15 points as the runner-up and freshman Rebecca Bersani (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) was fourth, posting a score of 213.55.
The Bison placed third in both of the day's relay events. Mongan, sophomore Susan Horstmann (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), Munson and Scheffter combined for a time of 1:39.41 in the 200 free relay and the team of freshman Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen), Morris, Munson and Mongan competed the 400 medley relay in 4:01.96.
Bucknell will wrap up the Trials/Finals Invitational, tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 19, with trials beginning at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 5 p.m.
