Bison Women's Swimming & Diving Claims Second at Own Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving squad wrapped up its weekend of competition at the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational on Sunday in Kinney Natatorium and finished second in team scoring with 968.5 points. Towson won the two-day meet, leading all five teams with 1,131.5 and Rider, Old Dominion and Binghamton rounded out the field with scores of 474, 440 and 314, respectively.
Senior Laura Goeller (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School) was the lone event winner for the Bison as she captured the top spot in the 200 back with a time of two minutes, 9.16 seconds, heading a one-two-three sweep for the Orange and Blue as freshman Abigail Paules (York, Pa./Baltimore Lutheran) and classmate Lauren Russell (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) followed in second and third with times of 2:09.61 and 2:11.13, respectively.
Goeller headed up another strong showing for the Bison in the 400 IM where she was the runner-up after touching the wall in 4:25.77. Senior Nikki Woodward (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) finished right behind her in third (4:37.76), while Paules was fourth in 4:40.35.
In the 200 breast, sophomore Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) captured second with a time of 2:26.20, which landed her fifth in the Bucknell record books, and Woodward finished in 2:26.89 to take fourth in the event.
Freshman Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and senior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) both recorded third-place finishes on day two, Mongan in the 100 free (53.88) and Munson in the 100 fly (58.78).
On the boards for the Orange and Blue, sophomore Lauren Thomas (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) scored 213.30 points in the three-meter dive to claim second and freshman Rebecca Bersani (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) posted a score of 210.10, good for fourth.
Freshman Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen), Morris, Munson and senior Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) led Bucknell to a runner-up showing in the 200 medley relay, combining for a time of 1:48.90.
The Bison will be idle next weekend and will return to action on Sunday, December, 3, when the squad will take on UMBC at home in Kinney Natatorium beginning at noon.
