Bison Men's Swimming & Diving Turns in Second-Place Showing at Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's swimming and diving squad completed its weekend of competition at the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational on Sunday in Kinney Natatorium, taking second out of five teams with 818 points. Binghamton came away with the top spot after scoring 830 points, while Old Dominion was third (611), Towson fourth (594) and Rider fifth (440).
After setting a personal best in the 100 breast on day one, junior Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) posted a second-place time of 2:09.24 in the 200 breast, which vaulted him into the Bison record books with the seventh-fastest time in school history. Sophomore Michael Deighan (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) followed in fourth with a time of 2:10.73.
Freshman Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) captured second in the 500 free, touching the wall in 4:45.94, junior John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) was fourth in the 100 free (47.33) and junior Theo Leriotis (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional Senior High) took fourth in the 400 IM (4:16.27).
Sophomore Jeffrey Manning (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll Jr./Sr. High) was the top finisher for the Orange and Blue in three-meter diving, placing third with 234.30 points.
Bucknell collected a runner-up showing in the 200 medley relay as the team of sophomore Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area), Bennett, senior Matt Crandell (Winchester, Va./John Handley) and Peterman combined for a time of 1:35.66.
The Bison will be idle next weekend and will return to action on Sunday, December, 3, when the squad will take on UMBC at home in Kinney Natatorium beginning at noon.
