Bison Men's Swimming and Diving Sits in Second after First Day of the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison men's swimming and diving squad finished day one of the Bucknell/Trials Finals Invitational in second out of five teams competing in the two-day meet in Kinney Natatorium. The Orange and Blue, with 400 points, trail Binghamton, who leads the team scoring with 435 points, while Old Dominion is third (338), Towson fourth (304) and Rider fifth (250).
Junior Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) was the lone event winner for the Bison on Saturday, collecting first in the 100 breast with a personal-best time of 58.12 seconds to move up to sixth on the Bucknell top-10 list. Senior Matt Crandell (Winchester, Va./John Handley) improved his ranking in the record books as well, capturing a runner-up finish in the 200 fly in 1:53.31, good for fourth all-time in Bison history.
Also turning in a second-place showing for the Orange and Blue was sophomore Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area) in the 100 back as he touched the wall in 52.79. Junior Tyler Sowell (Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) finished third in the 1650 free with a time of 16:56.37, followed by freshman Ben Leboza (Green Oaks, Ill./Libertyville) in fourth with a time of 16:59.98.
Sophomore Michael Deighan (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) placed third in the 100 breast (59.53), freshman Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) was fourth in the 200 free (1:45.74) and junior John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) finished fourth in the 50 free in 21.86.
In the one-meter dive, sophomore Jeffrey Manning (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll Jr./Sr. High) posted a score of 229.00 to take third and freshman Matt Traver (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown HS West) was fourth with 217.30 points.
Bucknell will wrap up the Trials/Finals Invitational, tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 19, with trials beginning at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 5 p.m.
