Bucknell Men's Swimming & Diving Splits Against Lafayette and Navy

LEWISBURG, Pa. - In its double-dual meet, the Bucknell men's swimming and diving squad came away with one win and one loss, picking up a 217-82 victory over Lafayette, but falling to Navy, 234-66, at home in Kinney Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The results brought the Bison to 3-1 overall on the season, 2-1 against Patriot League opponents.
Senior Matt Crandell (Winchester, Va./John Handley) was the top individual finisher for Bucknell as he collected two runner-up showings with a time of 53.18 seconds in the 100 fly and a time of 1:55.41 in the 200 fly.
The Bison also took second in the 200 medley and 200 free relays, with sophomore Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area), junior Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), junior Grant Steadman (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and junior John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) combining for a time of 1:35.84 in the 200 medley relay and Peterman, Steadman, Kawczenski and freshman Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) teaming up to record a time of 1:26.73 in the 200 free relay.
Sophomore Michael Deighan (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) and Peterman each turned in pairs of top-four finishes on the day. Deighan was third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.82 and took fourth in the 100 breast in 59.53. Peterman captured third in the 50 free (21.83) and finished the 100 free in 48.36, good for fourth.
Sophomore Christopher Amato (East Norwich, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Kawczenski placed third in the backstroke events, Amato in the 200 back (1:57.68) and Kawczenski in the 100 back. (54.02).
On the boards, sophomore Jeffrey Manning (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll Jr./Sr. High) led the Bison, scoring 250.80 points to take third in three-meter diving, and totaling 246.70 points in the one-meter to claim fourth.
Bucknell continues its stint at home next Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18 and 19, as the squad will play host to the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational in Kinney Natatorium, with events beginning at 10 a.m. on both days.
