
Bucknell Men's Swimming & Diving Improves to 2-0 with 178-121 Victory over Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Bucknell men's swimming and diving team improved to 2-0 on the season as the squad defeated Boston College, 178-121 on Sunday afternoon. With a strong start to the meet, the Bison were able to build a 78-33 advantage after collecting wins in five of the first six events, including sweeping the top three spots in the 1,000 free and the 100 breast.
Freshman Ben Leboza (Green Oaks, Ill./Libertyville) helped the Orange and Blue to victory, taking first in the 1,000 free and in the 500 free. He touched the wall in 10 minutes, 15.31 seconds in the 1,000, followed by junior Theo Leriotis (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional Senior High) in second with a time of 10:18.70 and sophomore Brendan McGregor (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) in third (10:20.82). In the 500 free, Leboza posted a winning time of 4:59.00, with McGregor finishing as the runner-up in 5:01.60.
Sophomore Christopher Amato (East Norwich, N.Y./ Kellenberg Memorial) was among other top point scorers for Bucknell with a first-place showing in the 200 back (2:01.03) and a was second in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.74, behind teammate Dan Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) who won the event in 1:49.67.
The Bison dominated the breaststroke events as sophomore Michael Deighan (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson), junior Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) and junior Joseph Metcalf (Knoxville, Tenn./Philips Exeter Academy) went one-two-three in the 100 breast with times of 1:01.33, 1:01.50 and 1:03.27, respectively. In the 200 breast, Metcalf took first in 2:16.90, Bennett was second (2:18.03) and freshman Brett Cary (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) placed third (2:18.85).
Sophomore Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area) was victorious in the 100 back with a time of 54.99, Leriotis captured first in the 400 IM in 4:25.06 and senior Matt Crandell (Winchester, Va./John Handley) claimed the top spot in the 200 fly in 1:59.21 to round out the individual winners for the Orange and Blue.
Bucknell will be back in action next Saturday, Nov. 4, when the Bison will play host to the Bucknell Sprint Invitational beginning at 12 p.m., in Kinney Natatorium.
